Abstract

This study deals with the language choice used among nobles, non-nobles and nobles and nonnobles. It aims at investigating the use of language choice of Sasak people in Sakra. It is Qualitative approach and it collects the data using some techniques including recording and note taking. Afterwards, the data are analyzed into four stages i.e. identification, classification, description, and conclusion. In addition, this study is analyzed data using Mahyuni’s social stratification, and Fishmans’ domain of language choice. The finding shows that language choices used among nobles are utame or tengak and jamak , the language choices used among non-nobles were Bahasa, tengak and jamak styles, while, the language choices used among nobles and non-nobles were tengak and jamak style, Further, the domains that affected the Speakers to choose the certain language were family, neighbore, religion, and workplace. Lastly, the dominant language choice used by Sasak people in Sakra was jamak style.
