Abstract

Soil microbes are microscopic creatures found in the plant root zone (rhizosphere) whose presence is used to indicate soil fertility and health. Rooting in peanut plants is one of the places where soil microbial symbiotic activities take place, but the presence of organic matter and limited soil moisture causes microbial activity and population to decrease. Based on these problems, this study aims to determine the activity and population of microbes in the rhizosphere of peanut (Arachis hypogeae L.) on different soil moisture and organic matter in inseptisol soil. This research was conducted in July-September 2023 in the Greenhouse and Laboratory of Soil Microbiology and Chemistry, Faculty of Agriculture, Mataram University. The research was arranged using a factorial design in a completely randomized design, the first factor was compost (P) consisting of P1 (0 tons/ha) and P2 (2 tons/ha), while the second factor was soil moisture (L) consisting of L1 (100%), L2 (80%) and L3 (50%). Each treatment combination was repeated five times and 30 experimental units were obtained. The results of the observations were analyzed using analysis of variance and significant results were followed by a further test of honest real difference at the 5% real level with the Minitab 19 program. The results showed that the highest microbial activity and population were found in the P2L1 treatment with a respiration value of 15.93 mg CO2/g/hour and an average population of 2.2x108 cfu/g soil of total bacteria, fungi 1.15x105 cfu/g soil, BPF 5.8x105 cfu/g soil and Actinomycetes 4.8x105 cfu/g soil.
