Abstract

This thesis entitled "An Analysis of Figurative Languages Used in Disney Songs Lyrics". This research aims (1) to identify and describe the types of figurative languages used in Disney songs’ lyrics and (2) to identify and describe the meaning of figurative language in Disney songs’ lyrics. This study involved Disney songs lyrics as the research object. This research utilized descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected through browsing, downloading, read the song lyrics of Disney songs, and taking note of the data to obtain the information. The result of analyzing the song founded that there are included five figurative languages in those Disney song lyrics (a whole new world, speechless, and beauty and the beast). Those are; (1) Metaphor, (2) Simile, (3) Hyperbole, (4) Personification and (5) Paradox. It is important to learn and understand the meaning of figurative language because if the language is interpreted directly, it will have a different meaning. Figurative language often implies deeper or complex meaning. Understanding and using figurative language helps people to understand meanings that may not be able to be expressed in direct words.
