Abstract

This study aims to discover the subtitling strategies used in translating the Netflix Documentary Film Series “Our Planet”. There are two problems that the study aims to discover: (1) what subtitling strategies of Gottlieb are used by the translator, and (2) what subtitling strategy of Gottlieb is the most frequently used by the translator. This qualitative research is conducted descriptively, analyzing data from the film scripts of the Netflix documentary series accessed on the YouTube platform. English as the source text (ST), and Bahasa Indonesia as the target text (TT). The analysis of the data employs Gottlieb's subtitling strategy theory (1992). The results of this research identified seven subtitling strategies. Among these seven subtitling strategies found in the analysis, it can be concluded that translators most frequently use, transfer subtitling strategy with (71%) in translating eight film series from the Netflix Documentary film series “Our Planet”.
