Abstract

Discrimination is an action, attitude, or behavior carried out by someone or one group to corner another group. Usually discrimination is carried out by one group with a larger population to another group whose population is much smaller or what we usually call minorities. In this study, researchers discussed discrimination from a series by Scott Frank entitled The Queen's Gambit. This study aims to determine the types of discrimination experienced by the main character and the main character's attitude in dealing with discrimination in the series. This research uses qualitative research methods in the form of descriptive qualitative. The data collection technique is done by observing scenes and dialogs related to the type of discrimination and the main character's attitude in facing discrimination. This research found two types of discrimination in the form of direct discrimination and indirect discrimination. Direct discrimination is discrimination that is done openly and directly by the perpetrator, in this study there is direct discrimination in the form of gender discrimination, this is often experienced by the main character in this series, where a person's gender can affect the treatment of people around him. In addition, the main character in this movie also experiences indirect discrimination in the form of gender discrimination, in the series there is indirect discrimination in the form of bad stereotypes against women, namely the view that men are better than women. Moreover, the main character's attitude in facing discrimination was also found in the form of withdrawal, resigned acceptance, and verbal response.
