Abstract

This study aims to explore English teachers' perceptions of teaching strategies related to the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in the context of English education in Mataram City, Indonesia. The subjects of this study have been selected using purposive sampling and consist of three English teachers who work at the junior high school level. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study research design. Semi-structured interviews and questionnaires enrich the research, providing a multifaceted perspective to explore the intricacies of teacher perceptions and contributing valuable insights to the discourse on effective pedagogical strategies in the curriculum. The results show that English teachers have a good perception of their experience developing teaching strategies in the Merdeka curriculum. Additionally, the comprehensive insights provided by the questionnaire results depict English teachers' recognition of their proficiency in various teaching strategies and their adaptability to an ever-evolving curriculum, indicating a commendable effort to navigate the complexities associated with curriculum change. This study underlines the need for ongoing support, training and collaboration launched by the Indonesian government by providing mentoring, workshops and strengthening peer collaboration between educators which are identified as important components for more effective curriculum implementation in the future.
