Abstract

The growth of motor vehicles every year has increased, it produces air pollution that is harmful to the environment and health. Based on these conditions one of the efforts that can be done is to reduce vehicle emission levels by adding adsorber on the exhaust gas channel. Active charcoal is used as raw material adsorber because it has a good absorption. The purpose of this research is to know the influence of coconut shell activated charcoal as adsorber on vehicle exhaust channel in reducing exhaust emission in motor vehicle, and influence activation temperature to coconut shell activated charcoal quality in decreasing CO emission, CO2 and HC motorized. The results show that coconut shell activated charcoal can reduce emissions from CO, CO2, and HC more effectively than regular charcoal. Active charcoal adsorbents with activation temperature of 800 ° C can reduce CO, CO2 and HC gas emissions better than activated charcoal with temperature other activation. Activation of charcoal with an activation temperature of 800 ° C can break the bond on charcoal so that the pores of charcoal are getting bigger or more and causing an increase in the ability of activated charcoal.
