Abstract

This thesis entitled An Analysis of Figurative Languages Used in Lyrics of Scorpion Songs attempt to describe the kinds of figurative languages and the meanings of figurative languages. The figurative languages are focused on personification, simile, metonymy, and metaphor by firstly analyzing the general meanings of the songs. The data of research were acquired from two scorpion albums. Those are Crazy World and Love at First Sting. The data are analyzed by applying descriptive analytic methods. This research found that: (1) The three scorpion songs – Wind of Change, Coming Home, and Still Loving You, applied four kinds of figurative languages namely personification, simile, metonymy, and metaphor, (2) The function of four kinds figurative languages those are languages or expressions used verbally in order to describe or figure out one intention, idea, or message of one speaker, (3) The dominant kinds of figurative languages used in this three songs are personification, then simile in the second position, as well as metonymy and metaphor come after.
