Abstract

This study consisted of 2 parts, namely developmental research and experimental research. The purpose of this research is to develop a model Pocket Book Based on Local Excellence (PBBLE), while the experimental research purposes is to observe the effect of PBBLE toward students interest in science and students life skills. The PBBLE model of development refers to the 4D model, design of experimental research was quasi-experimental (non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group design). The subjects of this research are high school students who participated in the extracurricular activity. The data of development research was done by using questionnaires, interest in science and academic skills data obtained through the technique of multiple choice test, and social skills data obtained through observation techniques. The data of developmental research was analyzed descriptively while the experimental research was undertaken by using t test (independent samples t test). The results showed that PBBLE was catagorized as good and suitable to be used (mean score = 3.19) to enhance students interest in science and academic skill. The model PBBLE produced contains: 1) introduction part (book title, table of contents, the guide of uses, goals and objectives, rules of entering the region and the general picture area), 2) main part (description of flora seeded area and guide field activities), 3) closing part (bibliography, glossary and appendixs). The results of the experiment shows: 1) there was significant influence of PBBLE use toward interest in science (p = 0.00); 2) there was no influence of PBBLE use toward so¬cial skills (p = 1.00); and 3) there was significant influence of PBBLE use toward stu¬dents academic skill (p=0.00).
