Abstract
This is qualitative research with small scale research survey. It is aimed to explore the media used by English teachers at SMAN 1 Jonggat in teaching English to the students in academic year 2017/2018. The subjects of this study were six English teachers who taught at SMAN 1 Jonggat. The data were collected through observation and interview. Observation was conducted three times with the same objective that is to find out what media used by the teachers in teaching English. After that, an interview was conducted to follow up the result of the observation. It was found that there are several media that usually used by English teachers in teaching English to the student such as (a) LCD projector, (b) audio speaker, (c) whiteboard and board marker, and (d) mobile phone. The teachers have their own reason in using particular media. The reasons of using LCD projector are; (a) Help the teacher to show some contents in easy way, (b) it can covered another media, and c) effectively increase student interest. Some teachers used audio speaker because (a) it can be used to teach familiar thing with the student and (b) can bring the real situation of English conversation. Some teachers still used conventional media such as whiteboard and marker for two reasons; those are (a) needed as alternative media and (b) to write down spontaneous ideas. The teachers also use mobile phone as media. They use it because it can be used to produce sound like laptop and mobile phone is simpler to use than laptop. Keywords:
