Abstract

this study is a quasi experimental research witg design “non-equivalent control group design” aims to determine the effect of cognitive conflict approach toward critical thinking ability of Xth grade students on energy materials, impulse, and momentum. The sample was selected by cluster random sampling technique and obtained X MIA 1 class as control class using cognitive conflict approach and X MIA 2 class as experiment class using conventional learning. Critical thinking ability measured from 5 indicators that is basic clarification, bases for a decision, inference, advanced clarification, supposition and integration. Data of critical thinking ability is obtained through writing test in the form of description test. The research hypothesis was tested with paired sample t-test with significant level 5% and the result obtained tcount>ttable of 17,09>2,08. Based on result of hypothesis test can be concluded that there is effect of cognitive conflict approach to critical thinking ability of physics Xth grade students SMAN 3 Praya.
