Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the physical properties of rajumas wood (Duabanga moluccana Blume) from the village of Sambik Elen, North Lombok and the effect of axial and radial interaction onits physical properties. This research was conducted using the experimental method are made with completely randomized factorial design with two factors, namely axial direction and radial direction. Preparation of the test sample and tests carried out following the British Standard number 373 in 1957. The results were analyzed using SPSS 24 software, then tested further uses HSD test with a level of 5%. The result indicates that the average of green moisture content and air dried moisture content are 140,09% and 14,17%. The specific gravity by green volume, specific gravity by air dried volume and specific gravity by oven dried volume are 0.31, 0.32 and 0.33 respectively. The shrinkage of green conditions to dry air conditions in the longitudinal, radial, and tangential directions are 0,15%, 0,76% and 2,04% respectively. The shrinkage of green condition to oven dry condition in the longitudinal, radial, and tangential directions are 0,43, radial 2,17% and 4,89% respectively. The swelling from air dry condition to wet condition in the longitudinal, radial and tangential directions are 0.10%, 2.06% and 1.89% respectively. Interaction of axial direction and radial direction, axial factor only affect green moisture content. While the radial direction factor has significant effect on almost all physical properties, except the air dried moisture content, the radial and longitudinal shrinkage, and the radial and longitudinal swelling.
