Abstract

Background: Intestinal worm infections caused by Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) that consist of Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura, and hookworm (Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus) were common in the world. In Indonesia, the infection of Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH) also noted the rate was still high, one exception in Lombok. Prevalence of STH was relatively high in children at elementary school age. That is affected by the tropical climate, the state of society with low economic, unhealthy sanitary conditions, and low personal hygiene such as washing hands. The purpose of this study was to identify the association between hand washing habits and Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) infection among students of elementary school 3 Bajur, in Labuapi, West Lombok. Method: This study used an analytic with cross sectional approach by doing direct faeces examination and quetionarring. Statistical technique to analize was carried out by Fisher's exact test with a significance level of p <0,05. Result: The results obtained from 67 samples of faeces examination among students of elementary school 3 Bajur, in Labuapi, West Lombok who have filled out a questionnaire showed 30 students
