Abstract

Background: The high prevalence of malaria caused by several factors, including the increasing of resistance to present antimalarial drugs. Resistance to chloroquine and sulphadoxine/pyrimethamine encourage researchers to find a new antiplasmodial agent, including from marine biotas. Clathria sp sponge is one of the marine biota that previously known containing alkaloid which has an antiplasmodial activity. Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of marine sponge alkaloid extract administration (Clathria sp) to SGOT/SGPT level of Plasmodium berghei-infected Balb/C mice Methode: This research was an experimental study using Post Test Only Control Group Design. As much as 30 Balb/C mice were infected by P. berghei and randomized into 6 groups. 4 groups were given alkaloid extract at dose between 50-200 mg/kgBW and named as P1-P4 respectively and 2 control groups were treated with aquadest 5ml (K-) and chloroquine 5mg/kgBW (K+). All groups were treated using sondage for 7 days. In the last day, mice were terminated using ether and blood sample was obtained intracardialy. The data were analyzed using Oneway-Anova followed by LSD post hoc test. Result: There was significant difference (p <0.05) between treatment and control group. The significancy level was p=0,000 (p<0,05) in SGOT and p=0
