Abstract

The present study analyzes the reading habit of high achiever students and low achiever students of sixth semester students in English Department of Mataram University. The aims of this research are: (i) to find out the kind of reading materials that the high and low achiever students’ read, and (ii) to find out the high achiever and low achiever students’ time allotment for reading. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative studies. The data were collected through closed questionnaire and interview. Results of this research are: It was found that sixth semester students of English Department of Mataram University, both high and low achievers, have a great attention to read professional reading materials rather than other kind of reading materials. There were no extreme differences between the reading materials of high achiever students and the reading materials of the low achiever students. There were only some reading materials which show a quite large difference between the high and the low achiever students that are online blog and online article. It was also found that the high achiever students had the same level of time allotments as the low achiever students. Both of them are categorized as having enough time allotment for reading.
