Abstract

This final project is about the effect of illustration in comprehending short stories, an experimental study at the eighth year students of SMP Negeri 5 Mataram in the academic year 2009/2010. The objective of this study is to find out the result of using English illustrated short stories to improve students’ reading comprehension achievement. The writer used an experimental method with pre-test and post-test design with treatments for this study. The population of this research were all of the eight year students of SMPN 5 Mataram in the academic year 2009/2010 with the total sample of 64 students from two classes, VIII TN 1 as the experimental group and VIII TN 2 as the control group.
