Abstract
This research paper entitled POLYSEMY IN SASAK LANGUAGE is a linguistic study which concerns on the analyses of the multiple meanings of a word (polysemy) in Sasak language. This study is one of linguistic analyses which is closely related to the semantic field. The purpose of this study is to identify the polysemious words in Sasak which will be classified into several types based on the class of words and analyze the relationship of their meanings. This study concerns with two research questions namely what type of polysemy can be found in Sasak language based on the class of words and if there any relationships among those polysemious words?. In this case the researcher emphasized his analysis one of four Sasak dialect called as Pejanggiq dialect which is spoken by half of Sasak people in Lombok Island including the region where the researcher collected any important data and information from main resources they are nine respondents who were given questionnaire paper sheets and certain document which can provide any useful data for the researcher, such as kamus Sastra Sasak ( A sasak- Indonesian Dictionary) which provides a half of collected data, written Sasak old stories and epochs such as Petapayan Menak Jingga ( Menak Jingga meditation place), Sejarah Gumi Sasak ( the history of Sasak Island) Denda Ratnasari Putri Selaparang ( Denda Ratnasari the princess of Selaraparang Kingdom) which are written in Reramputan ( students books ) for elementary and junior high school in 1994-1996.The research is designed based on the Qualitative Method Procedure with a Descriptive Method use to conduct the research process. While the method applied to analyze the collected data is Distributional Method. In the final research process, the researcher collected fifty six (56) polysemy words (tokens) which are categorized into 6 types based on the class of words. They are independent verbal polysemy, derivative verbal polysemy, independent nominal polysemy, derivative nominal polysemy, adjective polysemy and adverbial polysemy. The researcher also found the thread of meaning (relationship) among those polysemious meanings which can be categorized into four types, namely Concept Extensional Meaning, Figurative Extensional Meaning, Synestethic Extensional Meaning and Associative Extensional Meaning.
