Abstract

This study entitled ’Students Ability in Using Passive Voice of Past Tense; a Case Study in the First Year Students of MA Nurul Hakim Kediri Academic Year 2009/2010. It is aimed at discovering the ability of the first year students of MA Nurul Hakim Kediri in using passive voice of past tenses. In this study, there is only one research question formulated, i.e: to what is the level of the first year students of MA Nurul Hakim Kediri. This study is a descriptive quantitative research and the sample of this study consisted of 30 students. The research instrument used to collect the data is a mutiple choiche test consisting of 25 items. It is then analyzed by using percentage qualification.based on the result of the test. After analyzing the data, it is shown that no student (0%) got score which categorized as excellent, very good and good. Further there can be found that 2 students (6.66%) got fairly good score, 4 students (13.3%) got fair score, 11 students (36.6%) are categorized poor, and 13 students (43.3%) are categorized very poor. In conclusion, the ability of students in using passive voice categorized into two; median and low. The percentage of the students that got median category is lower than the percentage of those with low categorized ability; it is only 2 students (6.66%) with median ability and 28 students (83.34%) with low category.
