Abstract
This thesis entitled Contrastive study on students’ ability in using pronouns in English and Indonesia for 2nd grade students at SMP N 20 MATARAM. The problem that are to investigate the differences of using subjective pronoun, objective pronoun and possessive pronoun in English and to evaluate the degree of the difficulties in using these pronoun in English. This thesis is written to investigate the difficulties of students in Using Pronouns (Subjective, Objectives and Possessives) in English. To verify factors that caused the difficulties of students in using these pronouns in English. The data which are gained in this thesis are gotten by applying qualitative and quantitative method then provided the test and questionnaires. The results of this study are the students have least difficulties with subjective pronoun among the three pronouns and they still have the highest difficulties with objective and possessive pronouns especially for listening and speaking. Pronoun in Indonesia was caused the difficulties in using Pronoun in English where the structure of Indonesia quit different from English pronoun and the similarities which are both language has subjective pronoun and objective pronoun as the facilitation between those pronouns.
