Taman, Dara Sri. 2011. Improving Students’ Vocabulary by using Flashcards (An Experimental Study at the Eighth Grade Students of MTsN 2 Mataram in Academic Year 2010/2011). Final Project. English Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Mataram University. First Consultant: Dr. Hamidsyukrie, ZM, M.Hum, Second Consultant: L. Ali Wardana, S.Pd, M.Ed. This final project was about the use of flashcards to improve students’ vocabulary at the eighth grade students of MTsN 2 Mataram in academic year 2010/2011. The objectives of this study are to know whether there are no significant differences between the students who are taught by using flashcards and those who are not taught by using this media and to describe the effect of flashcards to improve students’ vocabulary at the eighth grade students of MTsN 2 Mataram in academic year 2010/2011. This study was designed as experimental research and involved two groups: Experimental Group (VIII D) and Control Group (VIIIE). The number of each group was 35 students. The data were collected by giving pre-test and post-test for both groups that were administered before and after treatments. Data of pre-test and post-test were computed and analyzed by using statistical computation of t-test formula. From the t-test calculation, the researcher found that the t-test was 4.49. It is higher than the t-table critical value of the two confidence levels (.05 (95%) and .01 (99%)): 2.00 and 2.65. Based on this finding, it can be inferred that flashcards are effective in improving students’ vocabulary at the eighth grade students’ of MTsN 2 Mataram.
