Abstract

The tittle of this thesis is improving students’ ability in writing sentences by using jumble word at the class VIII/C students of Mts Putra Al-Islahuddiny West Lombok. The aim of this research is to know whether the jumble words can improve students’ ability in writing past tense sentences. The limitation of this study is limited only to jumble words toward the students’ ability in writing simple past tense sentences. The subjects of this classroom action research were the students of VIII/C Mts Al-Islahuddiny West Lombok, there were 30 students involved in this study. The instrument used to collect the data was the observation and tests. To obtain the expected data, the procedures were divided into two cycles. Each cycle was analyzed and observed descriptively. Before the first cycle, the students were tested their current knowledge of them in writing past tense sentences. Then, the students were treated by jumble words and after that they were given post-test 1. The mean score achieved in the post-test 1 increased (5.37). The teacher did the second cycle because the result has not achieved the indicator performance yet. After re-treatment the students, the teacher gave the post-test 2, the mean score achieved improved (6.97) and the indicator of performance (60) was achieved by 90% of students. In order to know the significant difference between the means of pre-test and post-test 2, the researcher applied t-test formula. Eventually, he found that the difference was statistically significant. Whether the (t-test 15.98) was higher than (t-value 1.699). It means the hyphotesis of this study was accepted. The writer conclude that the jumble word can improve students’ ability in writing simple past tense sentences.
