Abstract

This classroom action research was aimed to increase the student’s vocabulary through fable. The subjects of this study were 36 second year students of SMP Negeri 3 Kuripan in academic year of 2010/201 consisting of 18 males and 18 females. In this study two cycles were conducted and each cycle consisted of three sessions. Each cycle consisted of four steps; planning, action, observation, and reflection. The data obtained written tests, observation sheets, and questionnaires were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively. The result of the study showed that fable as media in teaching learning vocabulary related to animal world was able to increase the students’ achievement of the second year students of SMP Negeri 3 Kuripan in the academic year 2010/2011. After two cycles were conducted it was found out that there was an increase of the total mean scores of the students’ achievement form pre-test, post-test 1 and post-test 2, respectively 52.71, 63.96, and 65.90. The result of the students achievement with the passing score in pre-test, post-test 1and post- test 2 were 19.4% (insufficient), 47.2% (good), and 77.8% (sufficient). The result of the second cycle that was 77.8% indicating that the target of 75% of the maximum score has been achieved, therefore the action was stopped.
