Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the topic mainly discussed by politicians in politics domain in Indonesia that raised metaphorical language. The occurrence of metaphorical language was identified through qualitative research where the data collection was taken from a number of political dialogues and forums presented in two television channels in Indonesia, MetroTV and TvOne. The process of highlighting the data in this research was measured and recorded during a one month data collection. Note-taking also conducted during this research in order to capture every single expression that contains metaphorical language. Qualitative method during this study showed that the topic which mainly discussed by politicians is about social aspect in general. In specific, social aspect topic is divided into three categories; social welfare, social justice, and social security. The theory from George Lakoff and Mark Johnshon is applied in this research to elaborate the use of metaphor in politics domain and the theory of emotional content from Gail Fairhurst and Robert Sarr to interpret the meaning of metaphors. The result was that the topic about social welfare holds 24% from the whole data collection. Meaning implication from the metaphorical language that produced in politics domain by politicians virtually representing and maintaining each position of the politician in a government, either as the government representative or the opposition representative. Meaning of the metaphors in every statement mainly represent the feeling of disappointment, unsatisfactory, self-preservation, and at some point, metaphor in politics domain represent furious. Meaning varies according to what category or theme the metaphors belong to.
