Abstract

English Language cannot be separated from education. The area of this field is required various English language strategies. These strategy, are commonly used by students to increase their ability in English. In teaching and learning process, the use of techniques and materials which appropriate for the students is highly required, so that there is reciprocity between the teacher and students in the intended learning process. Thisresearch was conducted at travel agent department of SMKN 2 Mataram. The data was collected by analyzing the document study, questionnaire and Interview to support the data. The data was analyzed by using quantitative descriptive method. And the results found that high-achievier students tended to use cognitive strategies (72.7%), compensation and metacognitive strategies placed in the same position (63.7%), thenmemory strategy (45.4%) andaffective strategy (45.4%), And for low achiever students the most frequently used, memory strategies (69.2%),cognitive strategy(53.8%), affective strategy (53.8%)social strategy (38.4%) metacognitive strategy (30.7%)and compensation strategies (23.0%).This study also showed that high achiever students chose many learning strategies items, while low achiever students did not.
