Abstract

This study is aimed at examining and analyzing the flouted maxims in Lucifer tv series first season. In specific terms, this study aims to examine and describe types of implicature in the flouted maxim in the dialogue of the series of Lucifer. Grice’s theory of cooperative principle and theory of implicature are used to analyze the utterences which contain conversational implicature that found from dialogue in Lucifer. Descriptive qualitative method was used to examine and analyze the data gathered in this sudy. The data were collected by watching and transcribing the utterences of dialogue from the series. The data found were analyzed by using the theory of Grice’s Cooperative Principle and theory of Implicature by classifying and describing the data. The results of this study show that 5 existence of flouted maxim of quantity, 1 existence of flouted maxim of quality, 3 existence of flouted maxim of relevance and 1 existence of flouted maxim of manner.
