Abstract

Wali fruit seeds(Brucea javanica L. Merr) has been long used as a cure of diabetes by people in Sesaot subdistrict, West Nusa Tenggara. The purpose of this studyto find out the hypoglycemic effect of wali seed extract on fasting rats. The completely randomized design (CRD) study were applied to eight groups. Positive control group (K+) with glibenclamide therapy 0.5 mg/BW (bodyweight), negative control group (K-) were diabetic animals with administration of CMC Na 0.5%, normal group control(N) were not diabetes animals, and other groups were variation dose of seeds extract (D1, D2, D3, D4, and D5). The animals diabetic model was made by knocked out the pancreatic using 125 mg/kgBW alloxan (i.v.) except in group N. The data then analized byANOVA and LSD tests. The results of this study showed that a decrease in the average blood glucose for 15 days of observation by 4% (D1), 10% (D2), 22% (D3), 6% (D4), 6% (D5), 14% (K + ), 4% (K-), and 2% in group N. The ANOVA test results is p <0.05, which means that there is an effect of administering seed extract to decrease rats blood glucose levels. The LSD test shows that a significant effect on the K+ group and the variation dose group compared with the K- group with a LSD value of p <0.05. This research indicates that extracts of wali seeds is believed to reduce fasting blood glucose levels in diabetes animals with the largest decrease effect (22%) in the D3 group.
