Abstract

This study aims to analyze the character education in Andrea Hirata's novel entitled Rainbow Troops against the background of the low quality of education in Indonesia due to weakness education in equipping academic abilities to students. More from that there is another thing that is not less important, that is the lack of character education.When it is seen from the the portion of teaching is more focused on cognitive aspects only, even though there are other aspects that must also be developed that is called character. Central of the curriculum, the Ministry of National Education in Indonesia has formulated character education material developed, there are 18 character point but in this study used Tomas Lickona's theory as a theoretical framework in which the theory classifies that 18 character point into 6 points. Rainbow Troops Novel is one of the novels which has a message that contains the elements of character education. Guided by the values of religion, culture, Pancasila, and national education goals in Indonesia.In practice, this study uses a descriptive qualitative method, so as to produce descriptive data in the form of tertuised words and not numbers. Thus, the result will contain of quotations data in the form of sentences. The results showed that there were 6 points of character education based Lickona’s theory on the Rainbow Troops Novel by Andrea Hirata, that are point of Honesty, Tolerance, Love of the Homeland, Appreciate the Achievment, Social Care and Responsibility.
