Abstract

The research was conducted to know the chemical composition (dry matter, minerals (ash), crude protein, ether extract, crude fiber, nitrogen free extract) and it’s palatability of palm’s flower (Arenga pinnata) by male bali’s cattle. Data were analysed by descriptive analysis, mean analysed for chemical composition and t test-2 sample for palatability and a natural grass as standard feed. Chemical composition of palm’s flower was conducted in Animal Nutrition Laboratory of Animal Science, Mataram University and palatability trial was conducted in Dusun Punikan, Batu Mekar-Lingsar-West Lombok during three days, which is one day for preliminary periode and two days for data collecting. Palatability was defined a natural grass and weight consumption from three male bali’s cattle as object. The metode was free choice where palm’s flower 1 kg was offered to male bali’s cattle. The consumption of both feed was measured in five minutes periode as the amount of feed consumed in one minute periode. The secondary data concerning the availability of palm’s flower was estimated from the data of the amount of palm’s tree cultivated in one hectaare land and also from total land cultivated while palm’s tree in Lingsar district and eventually West Lombok regency from Indonesian State Forestry. The result of this research are 1) the chemical compotition of palm’s flower contain of 83.663% dry matter, 6.421% minerals, 11.923% crude protein, 2.675% ether extract, 18.705% crude fiber and 60.276% nitrogen free extract, 2) the chemical compotition of palm’s flower like as mill by rice product, 3). The palm’s flower more palatable caused the nutrition higher than natural grass, the shape as pellet and the sweat aroma. 3) weight consumption from palm’s flower is 41.819 gr DM/cattle/minute and the natural grass is 4.527 gr DM/cattle/minute. The palm’s tree cultivated of one hectaare land in West Lombok is ± 655,000 tree from total land cultivated while palm’s tree is ± 262 Ha with palm’s flower product is 32,750 ton/ year.
