Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the effect of young deer antler powder on the levels of haemoglobin, erythrocytes and leucocytes in male and female mice (Mus musculus). Sixteen mice aged 4 weeks were used in this research. The mice were divided into control group and treatment group which consisted of 8 mice (4 male and 4 female in each group). The control group was given 0.2 cc of vegetable oil only while treatment group was given 0.2 cc of oil + 0.4 mg of deer velvet powder daily for 4 weeks. The results showed that in male mice the concentrations of haemoglobin for control and treatment groups were 22,81 g/dl and 23,67 g/dl respectively, the concentrations of erythrocytes were 7,53x106/mm3 and 5,01x106/mm3 respectively, and the concentrations of leucocytes were 7,6x103/mm3 and 9,6x103/mm3 respectively. Female mice, for control and treatment group, had the hemoglobin concentrations of 22,85 g/dl and 22,85 g/dl espectively, the erythrocytes concentrations of 8,14x106/mm3 and 5,95x106/mm3 respectively, and the leucocytes concentrations of 6,2x103/mm3 and 6,8x103/mm3 respectively. The results of data analysis using the SAS program showed that supplementation of young deer antler powder had no effecton levels of hemoglobin, erythrocytes and leukocytes in male and female mice (P>0,05).
