Abstract

This study aims to find out the type and content of organic matters and crude fibres of cattle feed. The study was conducted from June to July 2014 in the communal crates cowshed at Batu Ngompal, Lingsar of West Lombok. From each of the feed given to 20 cows daily, samples were taken randomly, approximately 3 kg (10% of total ransom). The collected samples were then taken to the Laboratory of Animal Feed and Nutrition Sciences of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, University of Mataram to identify types of organic matter and crude fibers. Eleven (11) types of samples were taken to determine types of organic matters and crude fibres using proximate analysis method. The qualitative data were analyzed descriptively while the quantitative data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel program and computed based on the average value and standard deviation. Results of the study show that there were eleven dominant types of feed given to cattle, namely Rottboellia cochinchinensis, Cyperus rotundus, Fimbristylis miliacea, Musa paradisiaca L., Oryza sativa, Digitaria didactyla, Melochia umbellate, Pilea sp, Penisetum purpureum, Cyrtococcum trigone and Cyrtococcum sp. The average values of organic matters and crude fibres contained in the eleven types of cow feed were at 85.39 ± 6.61% and 29.71 ± 5.76% respectively.
