Abstract
Crab (Portunus pelagicus) by product is the hard component of fisheries by product containing khitin and khitosan which has a capacity to reduce the cholesterol level in quail. This experiment was aimed to evaluate the effect of feeding different levels of crab by product on blood cholesterol of quail. A thousand of two month old quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) were randomly allocated into five treatments in which each treatment had five replicates. The level of crab by product meal were; P0 (0%), P1 (2%), P2 (4%), P3 (6%) and P4 (8%) and diet were formulated using locally available feedstuff such as yellow corn meal, rice bran, broiler starter diet, concentrate, CPO and premix. At the last day one bird from each replicate was taken and blood was collected for analysis of cholesterol. The results showed that feedig different levels of crab by product significantly (P<0.05) affect blood cholesterol level of quail. Higher levels of crab by product resulted in higher blood cholesterol.
