Abstract

Background: Dyspepsia syndrome is a very common gastrointestinal problem in the society, especially the teenagers. Dyspepsia is a symptom such as pain or feeling unwell upper abdomen that persist or episodic accompanied with symptoms such as a feeling of fullness when eating, early satiety, heartburn, bloating, belching, anorexia, nausea, and vomiting. Although not life-threatening, the symptoms interfere with daily activities and have a significant impact upon quality of life.Dyspepsia syndrome has a multifactorial cause, where one of them is depression. Depression is one of mood disorder areaccompanied byfeelings of sadness, loss of interest andexcitement, energyreductionleads toa state ofthe fatigue,and reducedactivity.A study aimed to determine the incidence of depression, the incidence of dyspepsia, and the comparation between the incidence of depression and the incidence ofdyspepsia in teenager female in SMAN 1 Selong, East Lombok. The benefits of this research are expected to be used as a baseline and the true source of information for further research about dyspepsiasyndrome in teenager female. Methods: The study design was cross-sectional analytic. The respondents were 462 teenager female aged 14-18 years who attend school in SMAN 1 Selong, East Lombok. Approximate sample size to estimate the relative risk confidence interval, which was taken respondents who are qualified and have signed the agreement. Furthermore, the data will be analyzed with a statistical program. Result: Researchers obtained data on the number of respondents who experience depression are 21 people (4.55%), and the incidence of dyspepsia syndrome of the total respondents are 293 people (63.42%), while the number ofrespondentswerepositivedyspepsiasyndromeandpositiveexperiencedepressionare 18people6,14% of respondentswerepositivedyspepsiasyndrome. The results of the data analysis with Chi-Square test showed a P value are 0.030 which means a larger than α (0.05) which means there was an comparation between depression with dyspeptic syndrome on female teenager in SMAN 1 Selong East Lombok. Conclusion: There was a comparation between depression with dyspeptic syndrome on female teenager in SMAN 1 Selong East Lombok.
