Abstract
Since green revolution, the intensive agriculture has adequately met food production in some cotmtries in the world including Indonesia. By the time, however, some negative impacts in relation to soil deterioration are becoming a crucial problem in the environment. In addition, the decrease on soil quality of cropped lands is associated with the high intensively cropping system due to high input-energy including inorganic fertilizers, mechanical practices, pesticides, etc which resulted in decrease crop production. Some indicators of soil being degraded may include: low of soil organic matter, poor soil aggregate, soil compaction, low soil water holding capacity, etc. To alleviate such problems, a better soil management is indispensible to improve soil quality as well as a healthy agriculture. In tropical agriculture, in general, soil degradation developed rapidly due to intensive cropping system and land use change (Chan, et a1., 2008), along with human induced disaster resulted in soil erosion during high rainfall season.
