Abstract

Reseaches of structural bamboo, especially bamboo trusses have been conducted with satisfactory results. In practice, the bamboo trusses often experienced to be constructed due to enormous variety of bamboo profile, not only between different species but also between bamboo of same species and even from the same log. Howover, the problem has now been overcome by estabilishing glued-laminated bamboo. The purpose of this study is to examine the behaviour of laminated bamboo trusses with bolt conecction for roof suport. This study was commenced by examining the physical and mechanical properties of plain Petung bamboo. And the the mechanical property of glued-laminated bamboo has also been examined. The main objective of this study is to investigate load bearing capacity of laminated bamboo trusses with bolt conecction. The 3/8” diameter of bolts was employed in these connections. The specimen was positioned in a Loading Frame when a single vertical load was applied on the top of the trusses using Hidraulic Jack. The load and deflection were recorded using Transducer Indicator and Dial Gauge respectively. The result of the study indicate that the load bearing capacity of the structure wai in the range 1400 - 1600 kg. The correlation of load and deflection can be expressed y = 3,952 + 105,689x – 1,876x2, where y represent load (kg) and x represent deflection (mm). The result also indicated that the loading capacity was below the theoritical loads because in calculation theoritical load the laminated bamboowas considered as a structure timber. The failure pattern of the structure can be identified through shear failure and excessive deflection.
