Abstract

This thesis entitled “An Analysis Implied in Kathryn Stockett’s The Help: A Dynamic Structural Study”. This research is aimed at analyzing and finding out the themes implied in the novel The Help and its influences towards the main characters. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method. The primary data of this research are taken from the novel. Meanwhile, the secondary data are taken from various sources such as internet sites, dictionaries, journals, and books that are related to the primary data that would support the data. The study applies theory of dinamyc structuralism which was found by Jan Mukarovsky and Felik Vodicka. After analyzing the data of this study, the researcher found six themes implied in the novel. These themes are categorized into two; a major theme and five minor themes. The major theme of the novel is the importance of overcoming differences to make a change. Meanwhile the minor themes are; racial discrimination between white and black people, hypocrisy of the white women, the courage to pursue a dream, motherly love, and friendship. In addition, the researcher also found that the major theme implicated the other intrinsic elements mainly the main characters’ development. These major characters are divided into two categories which are the protagonists and the antagonist. The protagonists characters are; Aibeleen Clark, Skeeter Phelan, and Minny Jackson. Meanwhile the antagonist role is played by Hilly Holbrook.
