Abstract
This study aims to describe the use of taboo language in the dialogue of Dirty Grandpa Movie. It is focused on describing its types and functions used in different context by the actor and actress in the movie. In the types of taboo words have four types: 1) Epithets 2) Profanity 3) Vulgarity 4) Obscenity. There are four functions of taboo words: 1) to draw attention to oneself 2) To show contempt 3) to be provocative 4) to mock authority. The researcher use descriptive qualitative method for collecting the data. The data was collected by using categorizing, classifying, analyzing, discussing, and concluding. The sample of was taken from the dialogue of the movie. The result of this study revealed that the most frequently used type and function of taboo words were Obscenity and To Show Contempt. It is caused that most of the actor and actress frequently mentioned sexual activity that generated disgust to express their feeling in the conversation and to show the contempt to the listeners as they disrespect to the listeners or something, it usually makes someone in angry or unconfused situation.
