Abstract

This study investigated the vocabulary learning strategies used by senior high school students in SMAN 7 Mataram. The aim was (a) to identify, analyze, and describe the strategies that students’ used in learning English vocabulary, and (b) to identify, analyze, and describe the students’ difficulties in learning English vocabulary. This study used quantitative descriptive method. The data was collected by using questionnaire and interview. The population of the sstudy was all of the eleventh grade students of SMAN 7 Mataram, and the sample of which were 37 students from two different departements. This study found that: (a) Determination strategies were reported as the most frequently used strategies (48.6%). (b) Connotation is the most difficult in learning English vocabulary (51.4%).
