Abstract
Students’ difficulties in speaking English at the seventh grade of SMPN 4 Gerung were analyzed in this research, the objectives of this research were to find out dominant difficulties in speaking English and to find out factors that contribute to the students’ difficulties in speaking English. The research design applied in this research was descriptive qualitative. This research was conducted in SMPN 4 Gerung. The subjects of this research were the students of seventh grade. The research instruments used to collect the data in this research were video recorder and questionnaire. The data analyzed by identification, classification, description and explanation. The collected data were analyzed the result of the research showed that every student had different difficult in speaking. There are five components difficulties in speaking, those are vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, fluency, and comprehension. The dominant difficulties faced by the students in speaking English is grammar because they difficult to arrange word and the factors contributs to students difficulties in learning speaking are from internal factors and external factors.
