Abstract

Bamboo is one of the Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) which are widely used by the community, especially people who live in the area around the forest. The purpose of this study was to determine the physical properties of Bamboo Tali (Gigantocloa apus. Kurrz) originating from Kambilo Village, Wawo District, Bima Regency and the effect of axial direction on the physical properties of Bambu Tali (Gigantochloa apus. Kurrz). Cutting test samples were carried out in accordance with Indian Standard (IS) 6874 in 2008. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with axial direction treatment as the Pole (P), Middle (M) and the Tip (T). Data obtained were analyzed with a 5% confidence level. The results showed the average value of fresh water content, air dry water content, fresh specific gravity, oven air specific gravity, dry kiln specific gravity, respectively 98.17%, 11.69%, 0.59, 0.70 and 0.72. The value of longitudinal shrinkage, diameter and thickness in fresh conditions to dry air is 0.55%, 3.94% and 12.20%, longitudinal shrinkage, diameter and thickness in fresh conditions to the dry condition of the furnace is 0.55%, 4.85% and 12.13%. The axial direction does not affect the physical properties of Bambu Tali, so it can be concluded that all parts of Bambu Tali in the axial direction from the Pole to the Tip have the same physical properties.
