Abstract

This research aims to examine whether the use of mind mapping technique or not in teaching speaking at the seventh grade of SMPN 2 Labuapi. This research used quantitative result with experimental design. The population and sample is the students in grade VII and the researcher used two classes, which were VII-A consisted of 31 students as control group and VII-D consisted of 30 students as experimental group. The object of this research is the use of mind mapping. The instrument that used was test. From the research result, the researcher got the mean score of experimental class in pre-test is 54.3 and for control class is 56.62. While, in post-test by giving mind mapping technique, the mean score of experimental class is 66.9 and for control class is 57.59. Based on the test result, there is an improvement from pre-test to the post-test. To examine the hypothesis, the researcher used t-test formula. The test is 7.97 while value of 1.67 at confidence level .05(95%). By comparing the t-test and t-table, the result is 7.98> 1.67. It could be seen that there is significant effect of using mind mapping on teaching speaking.
