Abstract
This study is a quasi-experimental that aimed to find out the use of group discussion at the second-grade student’ speaking skill, whether there is a significant effect in their speaking skill after being taught by using group discussion. The population ofthis study is all of the second grade students of MTs N 1 Mataram. 72 students of VIII 1 & VIII 3 are chosen as the sample of this study. The data are gathered through speaking test. T-test is used to analyze the data to get the t-score. T-score was compared with the t-table to see whether there is a significant improvement of students’ speaking skill. Based on the result of data analysis, it was found that t-table for significant level of 0.05% (95%) and the degree of freedom is 70, while the t-score is 6.2. It means that t-score bigger than t-table = 6,2>0.05. It proves that there is significant improvement of students speaking skill after being taught by using group discussion.
