Abstract

This thesis is entitled “The Analysis of Hyperbolic Expressions Used in Lyrics of Bruno Mars‟ Songs”. The hyperbolic expressions found in Bruno Mars‟ songs are analyzed into several aspects such as the form, the meaning and also the function of hyperbolic expressions. The researcher applied descriptive method in this study. Data in this research are explained in qualitative method. So this study applied descriptive qualitative method. Moreover, in order to collect the data the researcher used library study. The population of this research was the songs of Bruno taken from two albums of Bruno Mars entitled “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” and “Unorthodox Jukebox”. In these albums there are twenty (20) songs, each of which consists of ten (10) songs. The researcher took nine songs of these two albums as sample of the study. After analyzed the data of this study, the researcher found twenty eight (28) of hyperbolic expressions. These hyperbolic expressions classified into several forms. These hyperbolic expressions consisted of seventeen single word hyperbole, ten clausal hyperboles, one phrasal hyperbole, and also one comparison. In addition, this study also explained about the meanings and the functions of hyperbolic expressions used in Bruno Mars‟ song lyric.
