Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify medical science students’ necessities, wants and lacks and their perception towards English program in fulfilling their wants in University of Mataram. This study used quantitative descriptive method. The sampling technique of this study was population sampling (all population involved as sample). In collecting the data, the researcher used questionnaire with close-ended question and open-ended question and interview. The findings of this study show that medical science students’ necessity was learning English to use in their future career. Furthermore, most of the students wanted to be able to read medical journals and articles at the end of the English course. Moreover, it was revealed that most of them lacked on speaking skill and medical science vocabulary. In terms of students’ perception, it was found that most of students’ considered that English program had fulfilled their wants because they were provided with some strategies to read medical journals.
