Abstract
Background: Cervical cancer is a type of cancer in the form of cells that grow abnormally in the cervix of a woman's uterus. Cervical cancer is caused by infection with the HPV virus. HPV infection occurs in the portion of the cervical canal and the uteri in the transitional zone. The highest incidence in women over 50 years of age with initial cancer-causing lesions is usually found at the age under 40 years. Cervical cancer is the second most common gynecological cancer in the world after breast cancer. In Indonesia in 2018 there were 32,500 new cases with 18,300 deaths. This research was conducted to determine the characteristics of cervical cancer patients in West Nusa Tenggara Province from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2019. Methods: This study was conducted with a non-analytic retrospective descriptive method. This study will look at the most common risk factors for cervical cancer cases in West Nusa Tenggara Province. The research data source is a secondary data by looking at the research variables recorded in the medical records of cervical cancer patients at the General Hospital of West Nusa Tenggara Province for the period January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2019. Results: The occupation of housewives was the largest in the variable of work, namely 67.44% followed by labor at 11.62%, civil servants 10.46%, entrepreneurs 6.97% and traders 3.48. For the education level, the majority of cervical cancer patients in this study had primary school education, namely 38.37% followed by Senior high / equivalent 20.93%, junior high / equivalent 16.27%, not educated 12.79%, Bachelor 1 and 2 8,13%, kindergarten 2.32%, Diploma 1 and 1.16%. The largest ethnic group is the Sasak tribe with 58.13%, followed by the Samawa tribe at 15.11%, outside NTB 13.95% and the Mbojo tribe at 12.79%. The majority of the history of patients had IVA screening and Pap Smear was 62.79% and who had never had screening is 37.21%. The majority of contraceptives used were unused 51.16%, followed by injection 26.74%, IUD 8.13%, Pill 5.81%, Implant 4.65%, Injection and Implant 2.32%, Pill and Injection 1, 16%. The majority of patients had more than 1 child, namely 49 of 86 patients or 56.97%. Meanwhile, those who had 1 or did not have children were 37 or 43.03%. the majority were in the age group range of 31-40 years and 41-50 years, namely 29.06% or a total of 58.12%, followed by the 51-60 years age group, 27.90%, more than 61 years 10.46% and 21 -30 years 3.48%. the majority only married once, namely 69.76%, followed by patients who were married more than once, 25.58%, and unmarried by 4.65%. the majority of the first time married at the age of less than or equal to 20 years, namely 47.67% followed by the 21-30 years old 33.72%, 31-40 years 5.81%, single 3.48% and at age more than 40 is 1.16%. The majority of cervical cancer patients at General Hospital of West Nusa Tenggara Province that did not have a history of STIs namely 91.86%. Meanwhile, those who had a history of STIs were 8.13%. Conclusion: the majority of patients work as housewives with elementary school education, Sasak ethnicity, have never done IVA screening or Pap smears, do not use contraception, have more than 1 child, are in the age range 31-50 years, only married once with the initial age of marriage under 20 years and has no history of sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
