Abstract

Sasak, as one of the local languages existed in Indonesia is very interesting to be studied. Maintaining the local languages is very essential for indonesia as to enrich and develop Bahasa Indonesia as the language of the nation and the cultural values of Indonesia as well. Studying Sasak language as one of great heritage in Indonesia in more detail and through specific way is very important for Sasak people especially for the next generation to develop and preserve their own language. Additionly, it will be significant, at least, to help them to understand and ecrich Sasak as their mother tongue. Furthermore, the writer believes that we need to do any necessary efforts to preserve our linguistic diversity in order that we can pass it down to the next generation. By doing scientific study or linguistic field of sasak, the writer hopes that it will bring some beneficial knowledge to the both readers and himself. As one of the native of Sasak Ngeno-ngene dialect the writer wants to design a study under the title: the nature of imperatives in sasak daily conversation. In this study, the writer will use a qualitative method. By using qualitative method, the writer try to elaborate a complex holistic picture about the use of imperatives in Sasak Ngeno-ngene dialect in the natural settings. The methods employed in this study will be descriptive and ethnographic. The population of this study was the community members of Sasak Ngeno-ngene dialect in Sesela village whose speech contains imperatives in their daily conversation. The sample used in this study was the community members of Sasak Ngeno-ngene dialect whose speech contains imperatives in their daily conversation. After cinducting the study by observing the imperatives uttered by three different community members in terms of their social status; commoner, educated people and those with Islamic religious title hajj and hajjah, the writer found that there were three forms of imperative in Sasak Ngeno-ngene dialect namely; direct imperatives, indirect imperatives and negation of imperatives. Furtheremore, each form consisted of two types of imperative, jamaq imperatives and alus imperatives employed by the community members in Sasak Ngeno- Ngene dialect in Sesela. Imperatives in Sasak Ngeno-Ngene dialect had three forms namely; direct imperatives, indirect imperatives and negation of imperatives. The first form of imperatives, direct imperatives, reffered to the commands which were expressed directly. One of the fatures of direct imperatives was the occurrence of the basic verb at the initial position of expressions. It was also possible that the imperative markers were employed in uttering command
