Abstract

This study aimed at finding out the factors and dominant factors that motivate students to enroll and continue their study at English Education Program of FKIP Mataram University. There are 56 out of 192 third semester students selected subject of this study. The instrument used was a questionnaire and was divided into two parts. The first part focus on students’ enrolment motivation and the second part focus on students’ motivation to continue their study. Based on the analysis, it was found the factors and dominant factors that motivate students. The motivation to enroll was found the factor in intrinsic motivation there are own desire (92.9%), English lessons (85.7%), becoming an English teacher (39.4%). and the dominant factor is own desire with percentages of 92.9% and in extrinsic motivation there are the advice of friends / family (62.5%), becoming a civil servant (58.9%), other major rejection (41.4%), parent desire (35.7%), Campus location (32.2%), high school English teacher recommendation (24.9%), the appropriate facilities for lecture (15.8%) the same campus with friends (7.1%), and the dominant factors is because of following advice of friends/family with percentages of 62.5%. The motivation to continue study was found in intrinsic motivation there are own desire (87.1%), Successful confidence in this program (71.5%), the English lesson (67.9), The Lectures that already followed (31.2%), becoming an English teacher (19.6%), a good GPA (8.9%). and the dominant factor is because of self-desire to continue study with percentages of 87.1% and in extrinsic motivation, there are the beautiful campus environment and conducive to study (87.4%), parental pressure (23.1%), because the quality of the teaching staff is good (58.1%), The good academic service (51%), adequate facilities for lectures (49.9%), and lectures were easy to understand (25%). and the dominant factors is because the campus environment was beautiful and conducive to learning with percentages 87.4%.
