Abstract
The purposes of this study are to describe and analyze the main character’s personality development in Jean Webster “Daddy Long Legs”: A Psychological Study. This study used the psychological approach with the psychoanalysis theory by Sigmund Freud (id, ego and superego) in analyzing the main character in the novel. This study used the descriptive qualitative method. The results of the analysis as follows: (1) The main character’s personality development, Jerusha Abbot as the main character in the novel is analyzed using the id, ego and superego by Sigmund Freud which showed the brief development of the main character’s personality from the beginning to the end of the story. (2) The major change of the main character personality is the spotlight of the events in where the main character starts changing her personality to point out the exact detail of the events. It is resulted that, Jerusha’s personality changing is mostly caused from the time that she entered the college.
