Abstract
Community forest is a potential supply of wood raw materials and plays an important role in optimizing dry land use. West Lombok Regency is one of the two districts with the largest private forest area on the island of Lombok. The total area of private forest reaches 4,415 ha or about 10.7% of the administrative area of West Lombok Regency. Forest management activities involve various parties, from nurseries, planting to timber harvesting. Production and institutional aspects are important aspects in private forest development. This study aims to determine the driving factors in development of private forests, especially in the aspects of production and the role of actors in West Lombok Regency. The results showed that the lack of farmers' business capital, number and quality of plant seeds were important factors in the production aspects of private forest development. Forestry extension agents and the head of farmer groups play an important role in private forest management. The involvement of the Dodokan Mayosari Watershed Management Center (BPDAS) in providing seedlings and facilitating partnerships with community forest product wood processing industries has the potential to overcome current production constraints
