Abstract

Reticence is a common problem faced by teachers in teaching learning process. This study attempts to investigate learners’ reasons for being reticent in speaking class. This qualitative study was conducted at English Departement Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Mataram University. Reticence scale was given to potential subjects of the study to determine the subject of this study. From twenty nine potential subjects of this study, twelve students meet the criteria of this research. Questionnaire and interviewed were given to twelve students at reticence’s level at range 63 to 126. The results of data analysis revealed that students’ reasons for being reticent are anxiety
