Abstract

The Analysis of Psychological and Social Conflicts of the Main Character as seen In Jack London’s Short Story “South Of The Slot” By: Rany Pangestu Aranta NIM. E1D009004 This thesis entitled The Analysis of Psychological and Social Conflicts of the Main Character as seen In Jack London’s Short Story “South Of The Slot” it focused on psychology and social conflicts of the main character. The method used in the analysis of the story is qualitative method. Qualitative method uses interpretation, concern on meaning and messages, and presenting it in the form of description. In the research, the sources of data are literary works, text, and the data analysis as formal data are words, sentences and text. The primary data taken from short story South of the slot by jack London and it would be supported by secondary data which were taken from various source which related to the primary data. From the discussion, it is concluded that (a) Psychological conflict of the man character in short story South of the Slot, there is conflict man against himself when the man character cannot maintain his life and love (b) Social conflict of the man character when he struggled to enter the south of the slot to write books and he had to survive through the hard life as a worker.
